Will’s Beer & Wine Pairings
RED WINE: 2007 Quinta do Encontro Barraida
FOOD: Lamb Curry Soup
The Lamb Curry is one of our all time favorite soups. We use Australian or Virginia Lamb as we can and our house blended curry spice to really form the flavor of this dish. The perfect pairing for this soup is the 2007 Quinta do Encontro Barraida. Full bodied, elegant and really almost velvety on the palate. For $10 I have not had a wine I like as much in a long time and I have happily adopted the wine in to my artillery of inexpensive wine ideas for caterings, events and everyday use. $9.99
Other good pairings for this wine: Quesadilla, BBQ, Meatloaf
WHITE WINE: 2007 Famega Vinho Verde
FOOD: Gulf Shrimp Salad
The Shrimp are marinated in a smoked Basque Paprika and minced garlic then seared and tossed with a hard boiled Polyface egg and some ripe Avocado. A great math for this Vinho Verde which has a small amount of initial carbonation and demands to be drunk young. Low in alcohol (8-10% ABV is typical), which means they are excellent for quaffing with lunch. Dry, with plenty of fruit and acidity similar to Sauvignon Blanc. $8.99
FOOD: 90's Club Sandwich
Conceived as a return to the Bacon, Chicken, Avocado trio that composed so much of the early and mid 90's lunch fare. This is a delicious trio of flavors. There is no better pairing for this sandwich than a St. Georges Brewing Company, Winter Scotch Ale. This is a malty, full bodied ale with a delicate hop effect allowing wisps of peat smoked malt interwoven with a slight roastiness to come through. Dark copper in color and finishes with a lingering peat smoke effect
